Often called the most important job in a rock band (especially in a live concert setting), as the title implies, the front man has a visual presence in front of the band and they are usually the lead singer, who delivers the band introductions and connects with the audience through their “in between song banter”. Their charisma keeps the show moving and the crowd involved with much of the audience. Along with discussing the best front men in rock ‘n’ roll, the Timmons Brothers will also discuss the best all-time rock ‘n’ roll male vocalists. Are there any cross overs in the two lists of best front men in rock and the best rock vocalists for the complete package? Are there outstanding vocalists on a recording, but not a great front man in concert or vice versa - being an outstanding front man in concert overshadows their studio vocal performance? We will address these questions and more. After all, can we agree that apart from heavy guitar riffs and bombastic drumming, the heart of rock music lies in the sound of the vocalist?
