Mention the terms “record album covers” and multiple images arise. For some, it is nostalgia of a day when the record cover may have been as big (or bigger) than the songs on the album. For others, they see pieces of art forever imprinted in their mind while others view album covers as sources to stir controversy or a political statement. Although more music is available in a cloud, an increasing interest in vinyl counters the virtual movement thanks in part to the album cover. Join the Timmons Brothers in discussing iconic album covers and sharing their favorites.

We take different trails to discovering music from multiple sources, which includes TV shows, movies, and radio. However, for many it is a purchase of a hit single in various formats (45 RPM record/ cassette single, CD single), which is true for the Timmons Brothers only to be overridden by the purchase of a record album as young lads in the summer of 1966. As a testament to the number of times they listened to this album, the diameter of the center hole of the 33and1/3 LP would expand in size as it rotated around the spindle to the point the album had to be retired from play. Although this album is personally held in high esteem by the Timmons Brothers, its influential credibility has been enhanced over the years by having the likes of David Bowie and The Who cover a song from the album and being included in such publications as 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and Rolling Stone's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time thanks to a hit song ranked number 400. The record label also recognized this album’s special place upon its release in 1966 when the liner notes on the back cover included the statement, “It may be presumptuous to say that this album is ‘American Rubber Soul,’ but then again, it may not.” Join the Timmons Brothers as they unveil this benchmark album and analyze why it holds such a transformative place in their passion for rock ‘n’ roll history. We hope you feel the urge to let us know the hit single or album that holds a special place for you as listeners.

An anomaly of rock artists when they started in the Summer of Love in 1967 with the release of their first album, but yet not a part of the San Francisco scene, or the growing folk rock scene in Los Angeles, or even part of the response to the British Invasion, the Doors blazed their own path in the pantheon of rock. In only a four year period (1967-1971) they released six studio albums, a live album, and a compilation with a list of memorable songs. Through the years, the Rock and Roll "establishment" seemed uncomfortable with the Doors, their success, and their mournful yet beautiful music. They were often viewed as simply too heavy for the critics, who covertly resented that they could be simultaneously mysterious yet so wildly popular. Although snubbed in many ways for their place in the history of rock, the Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and yet probably they were the last ones to care about their snubs, rivals, and awards. Join the Timmons Brothers as they explore one of the most misunderstood rock bands and analyze the legacy that Ray Manzarek, Robby Krieger, John Densmore, and Jim Morrison leaves us today.
